Tangier Island, Virginia - Sept. 2018, Ben

Tangier Island is an isolated community of about 400 people in the middle of the Chesapeake Bay. Only reachable by boat from either Maryland or Virginia, it is less than 100 miles (as the crow flies) from metropolitan Washington, D.C. and Baltimore...and, it is about as disconnected from 'modern life' as it can be. Cell and Internet service is 'spotty' at best, the relentless Chesapeake Bay is slowly eroding the island...ultimately the Bay will win...yet about 50 Watermen still make their living 'the old fashion way' and the community continues in a 'land that time forgot'.
